Unico - an Argentinean Gem in Paris

Last night for dinner, we went to Unico, an adorable Argentinean restaurant in the 11th arrondissment.

Philip ordered the Unico ribeye steak. Wow. I had the beef empanadas, & I'm still thinking about them. Everything was really fresh, perfectly simple in execution, and the meat was most certainly something to write home about... So I am.

Bonjour de Paris!

Bonjour everyone!
We are in Paris and loving it. We arrived yesterday (Sunday), a bit jet lagged but besides that -- great & excited to finally be here. I honestly didn't know what to expect from our house-swap leap of faith. I was a bit nervous and very curious to see where we'd be living for a month, so after arriving at our new address via plane, train and automobile (taxi), and dragging our (HUGE) luggage up the four story walk up, I was SO happy to find this (see pic - we're the top 4 open windows with the curtains hanging out) charming, classically Parisian apartment awaiting us --Score!! It has beautiful huge windows that overlook the park and the apartment is full of light and very comfortable. Perfect for us really.Yesterday we unpacked, relaxed and napped -- then went out exploring for dinner. We found "Cafe Tuscany" right around the corner, where we had un verre de vin rouge (transl: glass of red wine -- I'm practicing my french).
From there the waiter told us we should walk to the 5th arrondissment and get dinner there. We happened upon "La Bella Angela" (great name) and had a delicious margarita pizza & une bouteille de vin du pays (attempted transl: local french red wine, I hope? Lol)Today we got cafe au lait at a local coffee shop to attempt to order my daily dose of iced coffee, which I haven't had in nearly 48 hours. So "Parle vous anglais?" we asked..."Non" our waiter responds with a smile -- plus we left our translation book at home -- so I tried my best with, "Un cafe au lait avec des glacons?" He nods, and returns with one glass of ice plus two delicious French hot coffees. Oh well :).
Then we went to the market and got micro greens, eggs, onion, tomatoes, ham, creme fraise and french bread, and came home and had this for lunch.

I'm loving this watch...

Ever since I fell in love with a vintage men's steel Timex (sadly broken, so I didn't buy it) while antiquing last week, I have been on the hunt for a perfect simple substantial watch with a slightly masculine feel. I just might have found a contender in this Citizen Eco Drive. I adore the black face, the classic lines and the understated clean, masculine details paired with the mid size band. Plus it's eco friendly because it runs on sunlight and never needs a battery...

Coming from someone who has not worn a watch for about 5 years, this one could make me a convert.

It amazes me how traveling to a new place gives me a fresh new perspective immediately... so refreshing and perfect and totally inspiring.

I'm in Upstate New York and this charming little town, Hamilton, is beautiful in it's charm and simplicity. Within an hour or so out of the city, everything looked and felt totally different. Serene, calm and breathtakingly pretty. It's funny because I did not even realized how tense I was until I came here... We are staying at a quaint hotel right in the center of town called the Colgate Inn.
Philip was at his conference all day yesterday so I spent my day wandering aimlessly and blissfully through these hills, arriving upon more gorgeous tiny farm villages. One of which I found an entire town devoted to antiques, (is this a sign?!) Bouckville, NY. I acquired some fun souvenirs for myself -- vintage photograph postcards of Hamilton, a perfect blue Ball Mason Jar with a wire hinge top and a lucite and crystal ring (Alexis Bittar inspired) from the sixties.
After antiquing, I made my way back to Hamilton, and it started pouring rain as I was walking around the main street. I hopped into Sushi Blues and ordered some soup and an avocado roll...only to begin chatting with the owners - a couple so lively, warm, quirky, funny and self described as the "craziest restaurant in town." The food was great, and after my meal we got to talking. I told them I was on my own because Philip was here for work, and they promptly invited me to hang out with them the next day! First to meet them at their stables, where they introduced me to their stunning horse, Princess...

Followed by breakfast with them at Judy's Diner, in Sherburne, where above the grill a sign reads "I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either."

Yeah, this place feels like home.
